NEW DELHI: Sree Shanmukhananda Sangeetha Sabha in association with Andhra Pradesh Bhawan and Indian Oil Corporation is organising the four-day Thyagaraja Music Festival here in the Capital from this coming Saturday.
The festival will be held in Ambedkar Auditorium of Andhra Pradesh Bhawan.
The festival will be inaugurated by the Managing Director of The Hindu, N. Murali, who is also the President of the Music Academy in Chennai.
Sree Shanmukhananda Sangeetha Sabha has long been engaged in propagation of fine arts, particularly music and dance, in the Capital. One of the major events organised by the Sabha every year around this time is the Thyagaraja Music Festival in memory of the great saint-poet-composer.
At the festival, besides performances by various artistes, the audience can also enjoy a panel discussion on the traditions of music and dance on February 24. Awards will also be presented to outstanding artistes on the first day of the festival. This year’s award winners include R. Vedavalli, Kalanidhi Narayanan, Meenakshi Chittaranjan and Rajeshwari Sainath.
The second part of the festival is scheduled to be held from March 21 to 24 featuring, among others, Sudha Raghunathan and T. M. Krishna.
