Port operations partially affected

Staff Reporter

KOCHI: The hartal called by the UDF in the State on Tuesday partially affected operations of the Cochin Port Trust.

Stoppage of trailer operations has affected movement of containers to and from the port premises. However, the hartal did not affect the container terminal operations as there was enough cargo inside the terminal for exports. Likewise, the operations in the Mattanchery Wharf, where bulk cargo vessels are anchored, was not hampered. Various port establishments worked with skeleton staff as transport vehicles were off the road.

The shipping fraternity called upon political parties to exempt the port operations from hartals.
