Tuticorin, Dindigul clinch titles

Nagercoil: Tuticorin won the men’s title defeating Chennai 3-0, while Dindigul claimed the women’s title with a 4-0 victory over Kanyakumari in the football finals in the State Games meet, at the Anna Stadium, here on Sunday.

The results: Football: Men: Final: Tuticorin 3 (Akinas 2, Ramesh) bt Chennai 0. Semifinals: Tuticorin 2 bt Kanyakumari 1; Chennai 4 bt Thiruvannamalai 0.

Quarterfinals: Tuticorin 4 bt Madurai 3; Kanyakumari 1 bt Tirunelveli 0; Chennai 1 bt Salem 0; Thiruvannamalai 4 bt Nagapattinam 2.

Women: Final: Dindigul 4 (Radhika 2, Kalpana 2) bt Kanyakumari 0.

Semifinals: Dindigul 4 bt Namakkal 0; Kanyakumari 3 bt Kanchipuram 0. Quarterfinals: Kanchi 1 bt Erode 0; Kanyakumari 3 bt Thanjavur 0; Dindigul 3 bt Tuticorin 0; Namakkal 2 bt Tiruchi 0.

Shivanantha shines

Shivanantha of Loyola College (Chennai) won three titles, while Rajeswari of Holy Cross College (Nagercoil) won two titles in the State-level open table tennis tournament recently.

The results (all finals): Men’s singles: Sivanantha bt Kalvath 11-6, 9-11, 13-11, 11-8; Open doubles: Sivanantha & Vishal bt Aditya & Kalvath 11-6, 9-11, 11-7, 11-4. Boys: Inter-collegiate singles: Sivanantha bt Aditya 11-8, 11-13, 11-8, 11-4; Inter-School singles: T. Ramkumar bt M. Mukund 11-9, 9-11, 13-11, 9-11, 11-9. Women’s singles: Rajeshwari bt Shalini 13-15, 13-11, 8-11, 11-7, 17-15.

Girls: Inter-collegiate singles: Rajeshwari bt Shalini 12-10, 12-10, 8-11, 11-2; Inter-school singles: Anila Banu bt Vibisha 11-5, 7-11, 11-9, 12-10.

Vasu scalps five

At Sivakasi, impressive bowling by Vasu (five for 27) and Gokul (four for 27) helped Sivakasi Town Cricket Club carve out a four-wicket victory over Mepco Schlenk Engineering College in the Canara Bank-Virudhunagar District Cricket Association first division league recently.

The scores: First division: Sivakasi Town CC 200 in 39.2 overs bt Mepco SEC 90 in 28.1 overs (Vasu five for 27, Gokul four for 27); JC SC, Sivakasi, 172 in 29 overs (Dhamu 42) bt VHNSN College 82 in 20 overs; Sri Kaliswari College 113 in 30.2 overs lost to Challenger Star CC 117 for four in 24.2 overs.

Second division: Majestic CC 110 for eight in 25 overs (Padmababhan six for 26) bt War Horses CC 106 in 24.2 overs; Bharath CC 124 in 25 overs (Nallathambi five for 17) bt Metro CC 67 in 19.3 overs (Subbu Ram five for six); Boys CC 135 in 30 overs bt Young Indians CC 93 in 21.4 overs (Guru Saravanan five for 21).

Arasan FC posts win

At Dindigul, Arasan Football Club beat Pele Football Club by the odd goal in three in the Dindigul District Football Association ‘B’ division league at the NMM HSS ground, here on Sunday.

The results: Arasan FC 2 (Karthik, Muthusamy) bt Pele FC 1 (Karthikeyan); Gnanam Memorial FC 1 (Vikranth) bt PS FC 0; GS FC 4 (Charles 2, Vinoth Kumar, Jebaraj) bt Peter Memorial FC 0; Alagar Memorial FC 0 drew with John Paul FC 0.

Rural games meet

At Madurai, the Madurai Unit of SDAT will organise district-level a rural games meet for school boys and girls (below-16) in athletics, hockey, football, volleyball, kabaddi, kho-kho, weight-lifting and tug-of-war at the Race Course Stadium from February 20 to 22.
