Mumbai: Playing a match for the first time since last September, Andrew Flintoff spent his first 25 overs at slip, held a catch and from the 26th over fielded at cover, long leg and long on and thereafter faced 14 balls before slashing left arm spinner Ankit Chavan into the hands of Amol Muzumdar at point. The England Lions, set a target of 269 in 50 overs won a cliffhanger in the 49.5th over with Liam Plunkett smashing a six of medium pacer Wilkin Mota in a friendly match against Mumbai XI at the Brabourne Stadium here on Tuesday. Lions opener Michael Carberry’s superb century and Alan Richardson’s fine opening burst were the highlights of the one-day match, but the attention was largely on the former England captain. Flintoff is scheduled to meet the press on Wednesday afternoon. The scores: Mumbai XI 268 for eight in 50 overs (Vinit Indulkar 40, Bhavin Thakkar 46, Aditya Tare 78) lost to England Lions 271 for seven in 49.5 overs (Michael Carberry 103, Jonathan Trott 40). — Special Correspondent
