AAC in last eight

TIRUCHI: Arul Anandar College (Madurai) defeated Government Arts College (Karur) 58-52 to enter the basketball quarterfinals in the South India-level inter-collegiate centenary tournaments here on Tuesday.

The results: Pre-quarterfinals: Arul Anandar College bt GAC (Karur) 58-52; Sathyabama bt New Hostel 53-23; St. Joseph’s EC bt Bishop Heber College 43-28; St. Xavier’s College bt Clive’s Hostel 40-32.

RK MFC posts win

RK MFC scored a 4-1 win over Golden Arrows in the Tiruchi DFA second division ‘B’ Zone football league fixture here on Tuesday. The third division ‘B’ Zone league encounter between Challenge Union and UDC ended in a goalless draw.

Sakthi shines

At Thanjavur, P. Sakthi’s unbeaten century and K. Anbalagan’s six-wicket haul helped KMCC score a 60-run win over TUK Arts College in a Thanjavur DCA first division league cricket match.

The scores: KMCC 233 for five in 35 overs (P. Sakthi 116 not out) bt TUK Arts College 173 in 33.2 overs (Vivekraj 62, K. Anbalagan six for 25); Kings College 157 in 34.1 overs (Baskar 54 not out, Sathish Kumar four for 26) bt PCK Brothers 144 in 28 overs (Vairavaraj six for 26); Ganesh CC 119 in 32 overs (Thiyagu six for 32) lost to TUFF XI 120 for six in 29 overs.
