BHUBANESWAR: Nationalist Congress Party president and Union Agriculture Minister Sharad Pawar on Tuesday urged the people of Orissa to strengthen his party as a change in the government had become necessary in the State.

Addressing an impressive rally that was christened ‘Paribartan Samabesh’, Mr. Pawar said the Naveen Patnaik Government had failed to address the problems facing the farmers, poor and the unemployed youths during its eight years of rule.

Mr. Pawar also criticised the Congress saying that it had failed to play the role of an effective Opposition to ensure that the benefits of development reached the poor. Stating that there was a political vacuum, Mr. Pawar appealed to the gathering to extend their support to the NCP. The other Central leaders of the party who addressed the rally included Tariq Anwar and D.P. Tripathy.

Among others who addressed the rally included senior party leaders in the State Bijay Mohapatra and Ashok Das.
