BERHAMPUR: Some 52 doctors drawn form different specialisations, 108 para-medical staff and 70 volunteers are out on a mission to extend expert health care to rural people at Khallikote block in Ganjam district. Part of the three-day mega drive being organised by the district administration and the Health Department, they turned the premises of Mardaraj High School in the block into a makeshift hospital. For those suffering from cardiac problems and diabetes, this was a god sent opportunity to avail themselves of the expert care and advice, for otherwise they would have no scope to consult them unless they visited townships and medical colleges. More than 3,000 persons were expected to benefit from the drive. Some 2,400 persons had already registered themselves at the camp for tests and treatment. Modern medical equipment was being used for X-Ray, ultra-sound, ECG and other pathological tests. One of the rooms in the school was converted into an operation theatre for taking up minor surgeries. Even HIV test was being done at the camp. Blood samples of more than 30 suspected patients were tested. Those who needed hospitalisation would be admitted to the City Hospital in Berhampur at a latter date.
