BSP promises free rice to poor

Chitradurga: Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) national general secretary Veer Singh has promised that if the party were to come to power in Karnataka, it would provide free rice and kerosene to poor people.

Addressing a gathering after inaugurating the BSP convention here on Tuesday, he said that while parties such as the Congress had promised that rice would be given at Rs. 3 a kg, the BSP would give it free.

He said the party was strengthening its base in the country as well as in the State. Its main focus was on uniting people and ensuring equality to all sections of society, he said.

With regard to the coming Assembly elections, he accused the Congress of trying to delay its conduct through delimitation of constituencies. He said the BSP would fight elections in Karnataka on the lines of what it did in Uttar Pradesh through its policy of social inclusiveness.

Party leader P.G.R. Sindhia alleged that the Bharatiya Janata Party intended to create unrest in the country by fragmenting society on communal lines. On the BJP’s Hindutva ideology, he questioned their interpretation of “Hindutva” and “Ramrajya.” He wondered what the status of the minorities would be if there were to be rule by the majority.

He advised Siddaramaiah and the former Janata Dal (Secular) leader M.P. Prakash to reconsider their decision on joining the Congress. He appealed to the people not to vote for either the Congress or the BJP, but give the BSP an opportunity to offer better governance.
