THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The LDF State committee met here on Tuesday to discuss the position the State government should take when the public interest litigation questioning the validity of the Kochi land deal between the HMT and a Mumbai-based company comes up for hearing in the High Court. The LDF State committee meeting was in the context of conflicting views within the front, as well as the officialdom, on whether the HMT could sell the land (40 hectares) given to it by the government specifically for industrial purpose. A committee headed by the Chief Secretary had proposed invalidating the sale, while the Advocate General had given the government the opinion that the HMT was well within its rights in executing the sale. The LDF State committee meeting was not followed by the usual media briefing by its convener. According to informed sources, the meeting decided to direct the State government to go as per the Advocate General’s opinion while filing its affidavit in the High Court, keeping aside the views expressed by the committee headed by the Chief Secretary. — Special Correspondent
