Pensions through smart card
HYDERABAD: Disbursement of the social security pensions and wages to the National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme labour would be made through the smart card in six districts from April 1, Rural Development Minister G. Chinna Reddy informed the Assembly on Tuesday.
Replying to a question from S. Udayabhanu (Congress), he said the Government proposed to take up the scheme in a phased manner. It would be made operational in 7,822 villages in Warangal, Karimnagar, Medak, Mahabubnagar, Chittoor and East Godavari districts.
The scheme was tried on a pilot basis in 202 villages in Warangal and Karimnagar districts and would be introduced in all the villages of the two districts from April. Introduction of the Smart Card in the State was expected save Rs.19 crore to the exchequer.
The financial transactions would be handled by the customer service provider who functions as bank agent .
