Thiruvananthapuram
Thiruvananthapuram: The United Democratic Front on Tuesday accused the LDF government of continuing its negative approach in tackling price rise. In a statement here at the end of the 12-hour hartal, UDF convener P.P. Thankachan said that the government had not bothered either to take effective steps to tackle price rise or take the opposition into confidence and discuss the issue. Thanking the people of the State for making the hartal a success, Mr. Thankachan said that the opposition coalition was forced to resort to this extreme action because of the failure of the government to respond to the price rise and feigned ignorance about the series of peaceful agitations that the UDF had held earlier. He said that the UDF had always made it clear that it did not believe in violent agitations. But provocative attempts were made in certain areas to arrest UDF workers and leaders while the hartal was on. However, major incidents were averted owing to the restraint observed by the party workers, he said.
