State bags two awards

CHENNAI: Tamil Nadu has bagged two National Tourism Awards for 2006-07 under the Best Rural Tourism Project and Best Non-Governmental Organisation categories.

According to an official press release, the State Government had forwarded a proposal to the Union Tourism Ministry on various tourism development works undertaken in the Chettinad region for the Best Rural Tourism Award. It showcased the performance of the Irular Tribal Women’s Welfare Society, Thandarai Village, Kancheepuram District, for the Best NGO award.

The awards will be presented at a function in New Delhi on February 27. — Special Correspondent
