New acting VC assumes charge

MYSORE: T.C. Shivashankaramurthy assumed charge as acting Vice-Chancellor of the University of Mysore on Tuesday. He took charge from outgoing acting Vice-Chancellor Eshwar Bhat, whose term expired on Monday. Mr. Shivashankaramurthy, who is the also the Dean of Science and Technology of the university, will function as acting Vice-Chancellor till a full-time Vice-Chancellor is appointed.

Speaking to reporters after assuming charge, Mr. Shivashankaramurthy expressed happiness over his appointment and vowed to work for the overall development of the university. The Mysore University Private College Teachers’ Association has urged Governor Rameshwar Thakur to appoint a full time Vice-Chancellor at the earliest.

Association president K.P. Vasudevan said “The university has become a hotbed of controversies and many scams. This is a sad development.”

In a press release here, he urged the Governor to order an inquiry by an independent agency into the affairs of the university. He appealed to the Governor to appoint an outsider of great integrity as the Vice-Chancellor to end the controversies. “Controversial people should not be considered for the post,” he added.

The association also urged the Governor to find a solution to the problems faced by higher education teachers in the State.
