Land reforms panel to have 5 sub-groups

Special Correspondent

NEW DELHI: The Centre on Tuesday constituted five sub-groups to work on various aspects of the land reforms policy to help it achieve effective changes. The Committee on the Agrarian Reforms, which at its first meeting here formed the sub-groups, also finalised its terms of reference.

Chairing the meeting, Rural Development Minister Raghuvansh Prasad Singh suggested that wasteland at the disposal of the State governments be distributed to the eligible rural poor. The Centre laid emphasis on effective implementation of the various components of land reforms to ensure that the benefits reached the grass roots, he said.

Mr. Singh asked the Chief Ministers to go in for a thorough review of land reform programmes and schemes.
