Easy for Luxury CC ‘A’

VISAKHAPATNAM: Luxury CC ‘A’ won the inaugural match of the 15th annual The Hindu Trophy prize money cricket tournament, beating The Hindu by seven wickets at the Port Stadium here on Tuesday.

In another match, Galaxy CC defeated Victoria CC by 181 runs.

Electing to bat, The Hindu lost its way after a good start with skipper Sumit Bhattacharjee (51, 8x4) and K.R. Deepak (13) putting on 42 for the opening wicket, followed by a 72-run partnership between Sumit and S.K.A. Hussain who made a breezy 48 (5x6, 2x4).

After these two partnerships, The Hindu collapsed to 149. S. Suresh Kumar and Appala Raju claimed three wickets each.

Luxury reached the target in a quick time with Chaitanya Mishra (63), who was declared the ‘Man of the Match’, and Sri Ram (48) coming good.

B. Prabhakkar Sharma, Chief of Bureau, The Hindu, inaugurated the tournament.

The scores: The Hindu 249 in 36.2 overs (Sumit Bhattacharjee 51, S.K.A. Hussain 48) lost to Luxury CC ‘A’ 150 for three in 16.1 overs (Chaitanya Mishra 63, Sri Ram 48).

Galaxy CC 207 in 46.3 overs bt Victoria CC 126 in 37.1 overs (Y. Appanna Reddy 44, J. Ravi Shankar 25). B. Sudha Kiran.
