Sehwag likely to lead

NEW DELHI: Dashing stroke-maker Virender Sehwag is likely to lead Delhi Daredevils in the Indian Premier League starting in April.

At a function held at the Ferozeshah Kotla here on Tuesday, GMR Holdings, owners of IPL’s Delhi franchise, disclosed the name of the team and also unveiled its logo. Delhi Daredevils begins its campaign with a match against Jaipur in the IPL opener.

Delhi will be coached by Greg Shippard of Victoria. The MRF Pace Foundation chief coach T.A. Sekar will be in charge of the cricket operations.

“The Twenty20 extravaganza combines both cricket and entertainment and we see it more as a community venture that links Delhiites with our company,” GMR-IPL CEO Yogesh Shetty said.

According to Sekar, Delhi was looking to include Mithun Manhas, Rajat Bhatia and Shikhar Dhawan, the trio that played a part in the team winning the Ranji Trophy.

The Delhi and District Cricket Association (DDCA) President Arun Jaitley wished the team success. — Special Correspondent
