Youth fete hits a low

Staff Reporter

Thiruvananthapuram: The hartal had its impact on the Kerala University Youth Festival that was into its second day on Tuesday. Though the organisers had sought to minimise the impact of the hartal by limiting the number of venues to two, there was a sharp fall in the number of participants who reported for the various competitions. According to personnel at the media centre, a majority of students who failed to turn up were from outside Thiruvananthapuram district.

The Students Federation of India arranged food for the festival’s participants; the canteen inside the Palayam campus was also kept open. The organisers alleged that cars sporting the festival logo were stopped by hartal supporters at East Fort and at Poojappura and the drivers abused and threatened.
