45,059 TV sets distributed

Rs.78 crore for research in classical Tamil: Minister



Official gift: U. Mathivanan, Minister for Dairy Development, giving away a television set to a beneficiary sss in Tiruvarur.

TIRUVARUR: A total of 45,059 television sets worth Rs.12.16 crore have been distributed so far in the district, said U. Mathivanan, Dairy Development Minister at Maruduvanchery in Kodavasal taluk in the district on Sunday.

Distributing free television sets to 1618 persons in the fifth phase of free television distribution, he said that in the first phase on September 15, 699 sets were distributed in 2006 at Samathuvapurams in the district.

In 2007, a total of 43,441 television sets were distributed.

He said that a sum of Rs.78 crore had been allotted for doing research in classical Tamil.

M. Chandrasekaran, Collector, K. Anbazhagan, Kuttalam MLA, and P. Padmavathi, Nannilam MLA, participated.
