Sivaganga Park gets facelift

Musical extravaganza: A fountain getting ready at Sivaganga Park in Thanjavur on Tuesday.
THANJAVUR: The Sivaganga Park has been given a facelift at a cost of nearly Rs. 49 lakhs for the benefit of tourists.
Tiles have been laid with hand walls around the garden for the visitors to walk and 150 ornamental lamps have been installed.
A musical fountain has also been put up. “The fountain has been created at a cost of Rs.5 lakh,” park officials said. The huge tank in the park called Sivaganga Tank had been desilted and boat service has also been launched.
A winch is being operated to carry visitors to the island at the centre of the tank. A toy train chugs around the garden and a mini zoo housing animals like monkey, rabbits, deer and birds like peacock, and pigeons.
“There is a swimming pool and we expect of lot of visitors during this summer. We are gearing up to host them in a better way,” say officials. Korean grass is also being grown in the lawns.
