BSES notices to residents for meter change

Staff Reporter

“We have sought people’s cooperation in making Delhi 100 per cent digital”

NEW DELHI: Having failed to persuade consumers to replace their old electricity meters with electronic ones, power distribution company BSES has now begun issuing notices to residents of housing colonies where installation of electronic meters is being resisted.

The company claims that while 78 per cent of the old meters have been replaced in accordance with the Government’s order of installing electronic meters in place of the old electro-mechanical meters, a section of consumers have been opposing the move.

“We have issued notices to the remaining 22 per cent of our consumers and sought their cooperation in making Delhi 100 per cent digital,” said a BSES official, adding: “We have been directed to install electronic meters during the next three months.”

According to company officials, residents in some areas have been preventing the company from replacing the old electro-mechanical meters. “Such instances are also being reported from residential areas like Mayur Vihar apart from congested areas like Seelampuri,” the official said.

BSES officials said residents have also turned down their offer of choosing the make and manufacturers of the meters. “All they need to do is contact the nearest BSES’ Customer Care Centre or log on to www.bsesdelhi.com for the complete list of authorised dealers and manufacturers,” the official said.

BYPL, which distributes electricity in East Delhi, has now sent notices to the secretaries of the housing societies and individuals, urging them to allow the installation of electronic meters.
