ADVENTUROUS: The climbing wall at Vijaya Vitthala Vidyashala in Mysore. MYSORE: A mobile climbing wall was inaugurated at the Vijaya Vitthala Vidyashala in Mysore on Monday with a view to encouraging students to participate in wall climbing. A 30-feet climbing wall fitted to the rear of a pick-up truck will be used by the students of the school for an adventure sports activity — artificial wall climbing. The artificial wall can be dismantled and even shifted to different venues. “It is probably the only mobile artificial wall in India that can be used for adventure sports activities,” said K. Anuradha, a teacher at the vidyashala and in-charge of the Interact and Nature Club of the school. The mobile climbing wall is made out of wood, whose surface bears hollow spaces to facilitate climbers to thrust their feet inside for grip. “After the exercise is over, the equipment can be dismantled,” Ms. Anuradha said. High Fly Adventures, an adventure sports organisation in the city, joined hands with the Interact and Nature Club of the vidyashala to inaugurate the mobile artificial wall. Honorary secretaries of the institution R. Vasudev Bhat and S. Gururaj, besides headmistress of the school Asha Rao, were present during the inauguration. After the demonstration, the mobile climbing wall was dismantled and kept away. “During holidays, we plan to hold regular wall climbing sessions as part of the adventure camp for students,” Ms. Anuradha said.
