Loan for small farmers

Staff Reporter

SALEM: The State Government will provide credit through banks with 50 per cent subsidy for creating irrigation facilities to the small and marginal farmers belonging to backward class, most backward class and denotified communities.

To apply for the loan, farmers should get a technical certificate from the groundwater division of the Public Works Department or from other government agencies about the existing water resources in their lands.

Committee

A committee led by District Collector will scrutinise the applications and recommend the eligible persons to the banks for extending loan. Farmers could pledge their pumpsets to get loan up to Rs. 50,000.

For loans above Rs. 50,000, they should provide collateral security as per the bank norms.

A maximum sum of Rs. 1 lakh would be extended as loan at concessional interest.

In the first phase, the Tamil Nadu Electricity Board would provide electricity connection to 500 farmers, who had created irrigation facilities with the loan amount, on priority basis.

Interested farmers could approach the Collectorate or the District Backward Class and Minorities Welfare Office for more information.
