Alangayam civic body bypolls held

VANIYAMBADI: Following the death of a DMK woman councillor of Alangayam panchayat union, byelection was held at Jafferabath at Vaniyambadi on Wednesday. The poll percentage was 61 per cent.

A total of six candidates contested the by election, which took place from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. amidst tight police security. The polling was held in six booths covering . By-election was held for the Pudupalayam block following the death of Vasudevanpattu panchayat president Kuppan of the DMK. The elections were held at the three polling booths at Vasudevanpattu and two booths at Anandal.

People of Anandal boycotted the election as their petition to include 462 left out names in the voters’ list had not been considered by the district administration.
