Special Correspondent

HYDERABAD: Mauritius Tourism Promotion Authority (MPTA) is targeting a business growth by attracting over 50,000 tourists from India this year.

Addressing a press conference here on Wednesday, deputy director of MPTA Vijaye Haulder, said that tourism contributed 12 per cent (50 billion Mauritian Rupees) of the country’s revenues. Last year, 42,974 Indian tourists visited Mauritius and the growth in their number was pegged at 15 per cent.

The Air Mauritius would soon be connecting Bangalore and it was also considering running an aircraft to Hyderabad in due course. Visa on arrival for 60 days was an advantage and emigration clearance was also not required. Several travel packages were being offered by travel agencies and tour operators. As many as nine lakh people visited Mauritius during last year while 25 per cent of them were from France.
