IPS officer remanded to custody
Special Correspondent
PATNA: The Bhagalpur district court on Wednesday remanded IPS officer A. Natrajan to 14 days judicial custody when he surrendered before it in connection with an incident of police highhandedness on the court premises on November 19, 1996.
Mr. Natrajan, who was then the SP of Bhagalpur, is currently posted in the Vigilance Department of Jharkhand.
The incident related to the unruly scene the police created after Bhagalpur ADJ D.N. Barai ordered the arrest of Inspector Joku Ram.
The police misbehaved with the judge and ransacked the court premises. Lawyers were beaten up. A judicial enquiry is pending in the matter.
