BHUBANESWAR: Project Ujala, an initiative of the Vedanta Aluminum Limited (VAL) to electrify peripheral villages of Lanjigarh was launched on Tuesday with former Indian hockey captain Dilip Tirkey flagging off the project. The electrification project was a community social responsibility of VAL, said the company in a press release here on Wednesday. The work for the first phase was launched at Basanta Pada village near Lanjigarh of Kalahandi district. It would electrify 18 immediate peripheral villages. In the second phase 32 more peripheral villages would be taken up. Project Ujala would cost Rs.3 crore and was likely to benefit 20,000 population. Local legislator Balabhadra Majhi, Lanjigarh Block Chairperson, Srimati Majhi and VAL’s GM (HR) Sailendra Singh were present.
