DAVANGERE: Anganwadi workers and assistants have expressed resentment over being neglected by the State Government and said that their longstanding demand of having their services regularised had not yet been considered. They are also unhappy over the non-implementation of their demand of minimum monthly wages of Rs. 3,000 (for workers) and Rs. 2,000 (for assistants). To draw the attention of the Government to their demands, the anganwadi workers and assistants have decided on a “Bangalore Chalo” programme on March 7. Speaking to presspersons here on Wednesday, Vishalakshamma, vice-president of the Karnataka Anganwadi Workers’ and Assistants’ Federation, and H.K. Ramachandrappa, All-Indian Trade Union Congress leader, said that workers were being paid Rs. 1,800 while assistants were given Rs. 825 a month. They were being made to work for more than 12 hours a day for this paltry sum, in addition to being forced to perform election duty and other tasks.
