Public librarians to boycott work

Government urged to fill vacancies of library information assistants

PUDUCHERRY: Public librarians in Puducherry will stay away from work from February 25 to protest the delay in filling of vacant posts.

A press release issued by the Pondicherry State Public Librarians Association said the government should publish the recruitment rules and fill the vacancies of library information assistants immediately.

The association would stage a dharna on Thursday and Friday to urge the government to provide Assured Career Progress for the library information assistants.

“There are 54 branch libraries with 81 posts of library information assistants. Around 21 posts are lying vacant and one officer has to handle two to three libraries,” B. Sambandam, general secretary of association said.
