‘Better sports facilities for schools’

NEW DELHI: The Delhi Government has drawn up plans to provide world-class sports facilities in all government schools to nurture young talent and ensure all-round development of children through sports. The announcement was made by Education Minister Arvinder Singh Lovely after inaugurating a hockey stadium at a school in Hari Nagar here earlier this week.

Speaking at the function, the Minister said the Directorate of Education had been working towards providing all types of sports and educational facilities to students. As part of the plan, he said, the Government would provide swimming pools and grounds for many sports to encourage students to take to serious sports and excel in them.

Mr. Lovely said the Delhi Government would provide all support to schools which wants to incorporate new and state-of-the-art facilities on their campuses.

At the function, which was also attended by South Delhi MP Vijay Kumar Malhotra and Hari Nagar MLA Harsharan Singh Balli, the Minister also announced that the Delhi Government was also planning to organise regular excursions and tours to important historical and tourist places for the students to increase their exposure to the outside world.
