GAYA: Mauritius Prime Minister Navinchandra Ramgoolam on Wednesday expressed his desire to import labour from Bihar. Dr. Ramgoolam made this appeal at a Press Conference concluding his three-day visit to Bihar saying “we will rewrite the story in a different way.” Dr. Ramgoolam’s grandfather Moheet Raamgoolam had gone to Mauritius as an indentured labour way back in 1871 and his son had liberated the country to become its first Prime Minister. Underlining his country’s success story, the Mauritian Prime Minister said that one of the problems was the shortage of labour. “We don’t have labour and we are now importing labour from other countries. We’ll welcome labour from Bihar.” He said that he had taken up the matter with Chief Minister Nitish Kumar and urged him to send labour to his country and that they would be most welcome. Economy liberalisedDr. Ramgoolam pointed out that his country had been growing at the rate of seven per cent and was expecting it to grow in double digit soon. The economy was being liberalised opening the door for doctors, lawyers and engineers. He also talked about setting up an arbitration centre in Mauritius to facilitate taking people from India. A Mauritius Cultural Centre would be opened in Bihar which would help in this direction besides strengthening cultural ties. Mr. Kumar promised to celebrate the birth anniversary of the first Prime Minister of Mauritius, Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam, as a State function on September 18.
