Thuckalay school gets additional facilities at a cost Rs.1.15 crore

Nagercoil: Minister for Tourism N. Suresh Rajan inaugurated new infrastructure facilities at Government Higher Secondary School, Thuckalay, at a cost of Rs.1.15 crore allocated by NABARD under its Rural Infrastructure Development Fund (RIDF) scheme.

Under the project, 30 classrooms, one staff room, toilets and an overhead water tank were established at the institution.

Collector Shunchonngam Jatak Chiru, Assistant General Manager of NABARD P. Sadasivam, Executive Engineer of PWD Gopal, Chief Educational Officer Mohammed Khani and District Educational Officer Mary Jessy, were present.

Speaking to The Hindu, P. Sadasivam, Assistant General Manager, NABARD, said that a total of 27 drinking water projects, 263 rural roads and other district roads (ODR), buildings for 28 primary health centres and 16 schools, one power transmitter at Vadeveeswaram, 12 State highway stretches and 16 road works identified under Anaithu Grama Anna Marumalarchi Thittam, had been carried out in the district, so far, using funds earmarked under the corpus of RIDF.

He said that a total of 102 road works, eight drinking water projects and construction of buildings for 16 schools and 36 veterinary hospitals, were under way in the district, with the financial assistance of NABARD.
