Letters to the Editor
The U.S. has described Pakistan’s elections as a step toward the full restoration of democracy. It will be so only when President Musharraf steps down. The bright side of the elections is the total rout of the fundamentalist elements. President Musharraf’s party was spared the ignominy as it mustered a few seats. The whole exercise looks like the U.S.’ doing. Divesting the reluctant military leader of his uniform and repatriating the homesick popular leaders to their homeland were the major components of this engagement. Involvement of the U.S. in Pakistan’s internal affairs is nothing new, despite the anti-U.S. sentiment among the people. K. Rajagopal, Visakhapatnam
