NEW DELHI: The Congress on Wednesday appealed to the Opposition parties to “cooperate” in running the business in the budget session of Parliament commencing on Monday. “We appeal to the Opposition parties to cooperate in running the business in Parliament and to discuss various important pieces of legislation on issues concerning common people in a constructive manner,” said Congress spokesperson Jayanti Natarajan. Referring obliquely to the passing of the budget in the last few years amidst frequent adjournments and disruptions, Ms. Natarajan said ever since the UPA government came to power, there was a “systematic” attempt by some sections of the Opposition to subvert the functioning of both Houses. “During every session, the running of Parliament was brought to a standstill and issues were not discussed in a constructive manner,” she said. “During this important budget session, we call upon all to cooperate and conduct business in a constructive manner,” she added.
