Rich haul for India

CHENNAI: India returned with a rich haul of five gold medals and a silver in the World carrom championship, which concluded at Cannes, France on February 17 (Sunday).

India’s Yogesh Pardesi clinched the men’s title, defeating M. Nataraj (India) 25-23, 25-12 in the final. The Indian men’s pair of M. Nataraj and R.M. Shankara won the doubles crown defeating Sri Lanka’s Chamil and D.N. Fernando 16-25, 23-13, 21-13 in the summit clash.

Apart from I. Ilavazhagi’s singles title, the Indian women’s pair of P. Nirmala and Rashmi Kumari lifted the doubles title, too. The duo beat I. Ilavazhagi and G. Revathi 14-25, 25-0, 9-5. Indian women bagged the team event overcoming Sri Lanka in the final.

The Indian men’s team finished second to Sri Lanka.
