Vetrivel Natarajan takes u-15 title

BANGALORE: Vetrivel Natarajan of Vidyashilp Academy capitalised on a poor opening by top seed Priyanka Sudhindra of Carmel School, a former National-level player, to win the under-15 title in the Prakrit Kidzone inter-School chess tournament held here.

Arjun Bharat and Krish Bharat of Delhi Public School (North) clinched the top two slots in the under-13 category, while Augustine and Shubham (Vidyashilp) shared the top honours in the under-11 section.

L.S. Prabhanjan of Prarthana School scored 5.5 out of a possible six to clinch the under-9 title, while in the under-7 category Delhi Public School’s Pranav G. Reddy won all his six rounds for the title.

Shashank sizzles

A double century by Shashank Hulmani and a half century by Rahul Chauhan helped KE Board’s High School pile up 390 runs in the first innings against St. Paul’s High School in the final of the KSCA’s Dharwad Zone under-15 inter-school cricket tournament at the Karnataka Gymkhana Ground here on Wednesday.

In reply, St. Paul’s High School, Hubli was struggling at 113 for five at stumps. Shreyas Murdeshwar shattered the top order of St. Paul’s HS by taking five wickets.

The scores:

KE Board’s HS 390 for six in 75 overs (Shashank Hulmani 203, Rahul Chauhan 51) vs. St. Paul’s HS 113 for five in 31 overs (Shreyas Murdeshwar five for 49).

Suman’s all-round show

T. Suman’s all-round show (89 and four for 25) helped Hyderabad CA defeat Air India by 30 runs in a MTR Nivarana Basavanagudi Cup All-India invitation tournament super-league match here on Wednesday.

Hyderabad CA scored 219 for seven in 30 overs and bowled out Air India for 189 in 28.5 overs.

The scores: Hyderabad CA 219 for seven in 30 overs (T. Suman 89) bt Air India 189 in 28.5 overs (Suresh 54, T. Suman four for 25).

Canara Bank 218 for seven in 30 overs (D. Chougule 57, Bharat Chipli 49) lost to Combined Mysore XI 219 for nine in 30 overs (Surendra 101, D. Chougule five for 24).

Nasik CA 151 in 30 overs (Amith Patil 52, N.D. Karthik 50) bt Mysore Gymkhana 102 in 24.5 overs.

Vijaya Bank 164 in 29.2 overs bt RWF 147 in 30 overs (Yere Goud 65).

KGS is champion

Karnataka General Secretariat (KGS) Club emerged champion in the KSCA Group II, third division cricket league here recently.

In the final, KGS Club defeated L & T Fine Arts SC by six wickets. Chasing 137 in its second innings, KGS Club won in 24.3 overs.

The scores: Final: L & T Fine Arts SC 209 in 51 overs (B.V. Manjunath 46, Pramod four for 27) and 182 for nine in 30 overs (B.V. Manjunath 57) lost to KGS Club 255 for nine in 55 overs (Hanume Gowda 54, Ananth Kaskar 52) and 137 for four in 24.3 overs.

KSA in last four

Kundapur Sports Academy (Kundapur) and Mangalore Cricket Academy (Mangalore) entered the last four in the Ramco Cup (under-16) cricket tournament here on Wednesday.

Mangalore CA humbled its Udupi counterparts by nine wickets, while Kundapur CA thrashed Coorg Cricket Club by 50 runs in the quarterfinals here on Wednesday.

The scores: Udupi CA 92 in 24 overs (Lal Sachin 26, Saif five for 17) lost to Mangalore CA 93 for one in 18.4 overs (Varun 35 n.o.); Kundapur SA 131 for three in 25 overs (Sachin 38, Inzamam-Ul-Haq 37) bt Coorg CC 81 in 20.2 overs (Nel Devaiah 36, Basheer three for six).
