Nilgiris runs riot

NEYVELI: Ramesh and Sathish Kumar scored a brace each as Nilgris thrashed Ramanathapuram 8-0 in the inaugural match of the 24th sub-junior State football championship, conducted by Cuddalore District Football Association, here on Wednesday.

The results: First round: Nilgris 8 (Srikanth 1, Ramesh 2, Sathish Kumar 2, Nishanth 1, Vadilvelu 1, Naresh 1) bt Ramanathapuram 0.

Bishop Heber triumphs

Bishop Heber College won both its encounters in the three-team league and clinched the U. Subramanian Rolling Trophy at the Bharathidasan University inter-collegiate tennis tournament in Tiruchi on Tuesday. H.H. Rajahs College finished runners-up with a solitary victory.

The results: League: Bishop Heber bt H.H. Rajahs 2-0 (Aravind bt Kannan 8-4; Karl Subash bt Ranjith 8-5); Bishop Heber bt Urumu Dhanalakshmi 2-0 (Aravind bt Ravi 8-3; Karl Subash bt Saravanan 8-2); H.H. Rajahs bt Urumu Dhanalakshmi 2-0 (Ranjith bt Ravi 8-6; Kannan bt Saravanan 8-4).

St. Joseph’s advances

Host St. Josephs College, Sathyabama, SRM and St. Josephs College of Engineering entered the semifinal league in basketball at the South India-level inter-collegiate centenary tournaments in Tiruchi on Wednesday.

The results: Quarterfinals: St. Josephs College 70 bt St. Xaviers 58; Sathyabama 53 bt Arul Anandar College 26; SRM 63 bt Jamal Mohammed 53; St. Josephs CE 55 bt Loyola 20.

Easy for Sunlight

Sattur Town Cricket Club beat Sunlight CC by eight wickets in the Canara Bank-Virudhunagar DCA third division league at Sivakasi recently.

The scores: Sunlight CC 109 in 29.1 overs lost to Sattur Town CC 110 for two in 18.1 overs (Mari Kannan 46).

Scorpio CC 122 in 24.5 overs (Vairam 52) bt Attackers CC 80 in 19.3 overs (Muthu Krishnan four for 30).

Shooters CC 98 in 27.1 overs (Ajay 52, Pandi four for 13) bt Red Sun CC 73 in 20.1 overs.
