Panels formed to assess condition of school buildings in Pudukottai district

PUDUKOTTAI: The district administration has constituted committees to inspect panchayat union school buildings in the district and assess their condition and repairs to be done, if any, under the Panchayat Union Renovation Scheme.
The committees, comprising the respective panchayat president, headmaster, assistant elementary education officer, panchayat union engineer/assistant engineer, block development officer and panchayat union councillor, have been requested to inspect the school buildings and submit their reports within a week, Collector D.Uthirakumaran said in a press release.
Panchayat union schools are being renovated in the district with an allocation of Rs.5.38 crore made under the Anaithu Grama Anna Marumalarchi Thittam for 2006-07 and 2007-08.
All schools would be covered under the scheme for 2008-09, 2009-10 and 2010-11.
Whitewashing of school buildings, repairs to roof and flooring, repainting of black boards, repairs to doors and windows and other structural repairs could be taken up under the scheme.
The estimates for the repairs would be assessed by district level officers, including the Collector and the Project Officer of the DRDA.
