CHENNAI: A flight chartered by AIADMK general secretary Jayalalithaa was forced to return to the Chennai airport on Wednesday morning after the aircraft developed a snag shortly after taking off.
The aircraft, chartered from a private company, took off at 11.17 a.m. and developed a technical problem in its left engine.
The pilot returned to the base less than ten minutes after taking off.
Eight people were on board, including the former Chief Minister and her friend Sasikala.
The flight was bound for Thanjavur. Ms. Jayalalithaa was to Thirukkadaiyur in Nagapattinam district to pray on the occasion of her 60th star birthday.
While she was offered the option of flying to Tiruchi on a commercial airline after the flight was grounded, Ms. Jayalalithaa decided to drive down to Thirukkadaiyur.
