CH Society to help cancer patients from economically backward sections. THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The CH Mohammed Koya Memorial Charitable Society will open a centre to provide free accommodation and food to cancer patients from the economically backward sections. Addressing a press conference here on Wednesday, CH Centre president E.T. Mohammed Basheer and general secretary Mohammed Shameem said the centre would mainly target patients from the State visiting the Regional Cancer Centre (RCC). Mr. Basheer said the multi-storey building, being constructed by the society at Chalakuzhy road, would initially have facilities to accommodate 50 patients and their bystanders. It is being built at a cost of Rs.85 lakh. It will have three general wards, 11 rooms and a meeting hall. Mr. Basheer said plans were afoot to add four more storeys. He added that the centre would try to provide financial assistance to patients who are incapable of meeting the huge expense involved in the treatment of cancer. Indian Union Muslim League (IUML) leader Panakkad Syed Muhamed Ali Shihab Thangal is scheduled to inaugurate the building at a function to be held on Thursday. Mayor C. Jayan Babu, District Panchayat president Anavoor Nagappan, O.N.V. Kurup, P.V. Abdul Wahab, MP, and IUML leader P.K. Kunhalikutty are among those expected to attend.
