Taxi drivers protest

Staff Reporter

BANGALORE: In protest against the Bangalore International Airport Limited’s move to rope in private operators to offer taxi services when the new airport at Devanahalli becomes functional, hundreds of taxi drivers under Karnataka Kaigarika and Vanijyodhama Kannada Sangaha Okkota staged a demonstration on Wednesday.

Nearly 700 taxi drivers offered the services from the HAL Airport under the Karnataka State Tourism Development Corporation (KSTDC). BIAL’s move would leave them stranded, the drivers said. It would also cost the KSTDC an annual loss of Rs. 2.5 crore.
