BATTLE: Anti-mosquito chemicals bring sprayed on Adyar Buckingham Canal on Monday.
CHENNAI: Mayor M. Subramanian inaugurated work on two bus stands at Ekkaduthangal recently.
The project is estimated to cost Rs.16.75 lakh. Currently, concrete benches for those waiting at the bus stands are being set up. The bus stands are expected to benefit commuters from Ekkaduthangal, Guindy Industrial Estate, Arulambal Nagar, Gandhi Nagar, Kalaimagal Nagar and neighbouring areas.
Mr. Subramanian was accompanied by officers and councillors.
Anti-mosquito drive
Chennai Corporation workers recently undertook clearing of the Buckingham Canal between Indira Nagar and Avvai Nagar, Thiruvanmiyur, as part of the civic body’s drive against mosquitoes.
They used boats to move along the canal, removing water hyacinth and floating rubbish and spraying a larvicide to destroy mosquito larvae in the water. The local body is also carrying out fogging operations around the slums next to the canal and the stormwater drains in the area, according to a release.
