Norms for the sale of imported cement eased
Special Correspondent
CHENNAI: Cement imported by the State Government is now also available to those building houses of over 1,000 sq. ft. with no restriction on the quantity of cement bags to be purchased.
The rate will be Rs.220 a bag and those who are interested can get the cement from the Civil Supplies Corporation’s godowns in Chennai and Tuticorin. Even approved plans need not be submitted.
K. Phanindra Reddy, Managing Director of the Corporation, says the objective is to pump in cement into the market and improve the supply position. Since Wednesday, the Corporation relaxed further the scheme of selling cement at Rs.200 a bag. The maximum number of bags, which was 200 till now, has been increased to 400. For repair works, people belonging to the middle class and economically weaker sections of society can get 25 bags at a rate of Rs.200 a bag. Payment through cash is permitted for buying up to 50 bags. Mr. Reddy says till February 18, the Corporation sold 12,050 tonnes of cement under the Rs.200 a bag scheme. It has a stock of 15,000 tonnes. The Corporation has started receiving consignments of cement imported through the MMTC. More information can be had from the Corporation’s general manager (sales) at 044-26425493 or on mobile: 94440 82448.
