Anand in joint lead

NEW DELHI: Defending champion Viswanathan Anand took a short draw with Azerbaijan’s Teimour Radjabov and later found himself as a joint leader after Alexei Shirov toppled Veselin Topalov in the fourth round of the Morelia-Linares chess championship at Morelia, Mexico, on Tuesday.

Joining Anand and Topalov in the lead at 2.5 points was Armenia’s Levon Aronian who escaped to victory following a blunder from Vassily Ivanchuk.

The results (fourth round): Viswanathan Anand (2.5) drew with Teimour Radjabov (Aze, 1.5); Alexei Shirov (Esp, 2) bt Veselin Topalov (Bul, 2.5); Vassily Ivanchuk (Ukr, 1.5) lost to Levon Aronian (Arm, 2.5); Magnus Carlsen (Nor, 1.5) drew with Peter Leko (Hun, 2).
