CHA league: Easy win for Port Trust

Chennai: Port Trust scored a convincing 4-0 victory over Madras Blues in the senior division hockey league championship at the Mayor Radhakrishnan Stadium on Wednesday.

What added an element of excitement to this contest was the manner in which Port Trust obtained all the four goals in a space of 20-odd minutes.

Held goalless till midway in the second half, Port Trust exerted pressure to push the Blues defence in disarray.

Divakaran signalled the goal hunt, and three more came in a space of five minutes between 63 and 68.

A penalty corner by Gopi enlarged the lead and this was followed by a field goal from Mahesh and then by Rajarajan.

Earlier, SAI ‘A’ prevailed over Tamil Nadu Special Police by two goals to nil, both surfacing in the first half.

Albert John struck first in the 12th minute, and Vikram netted the other in the 25th minute.

Mohit in semifinals

Tamil Nadu’s J. Mohit Mayur defeated Srikar Alla (AP) 6-3, 5-7, 6-3 in the boys’ under-16 quarterfinals of the UC MAS Singaram Pillai all-India junior tennis tournament here.

PSBB, St. Joseph’s win

PSBB (K.K. Nagar) and St. Joseph’s School clinched the boys’ and girls’ titles in the PSBB (K.K. Nagar) schools under-14 basketball tournament held here.

The scores (finals): Boys: PSBB 49 (Arjun 22, Abishek 14) bt MCC 41 (Limfo 10, Bezaleel 20).

Girls: St. Joseph’s School 43 (Krithika 26) bt Vidyodaya School 21 (Janani 11).

Venky-Ramani triumph

Venky Naik and T.M. Ramani triumphed in the T. Nagar Social Club open pairs bridge event on Tuesday with a score of 63.94 per cent sitting North-South. R.K. Krishnamurthy and Salai Vijayan won in the East-West direction with a score of 58.65 per cent.

Sports day held

The annual sports day of Sindhi College was held at the College premises on February 16 (Saturday). The Joint Director of Collegiate Education (Chennai Region) Prof E. Sankaralingam, was the chief guest.
