Bid to fell tree: Corporation for action

KOCHI: The City Corporation will take action against those who attempted to cut down a Vaka tree at Palarivattom on Tuesday.

The Corporation Secretary has been directed to take steps for proceeding against the persons responsible for cutting the tree, said E.M. Sunilkumar, chairman of the Town Planning Standing Committee, here on Wednesday.

The civic body also sought the cooperation of the Forest Department to protect the tree by putting up some structure and fencing around it. All the unauthorised extensions made to the shops near the tree would be removed, he said.

Mayor Mercy Williams and Mr. Sunilkumar had personally intervened to save the tree from being cut down on hartal day, Tuesday.
