Walia holds pre-budget discussion

Staff Reporter

NEW DELHI: Delhi Finance Minister A.K. Walia on Thursday held pre-budget discussions with a delegation of PHD Chamber of Commerce and Industry led by Arun Poddar.

During the meeting, the members of the delegation submitted various demands relating to rationalisation of taxes. They also sought development of infrastructure in a big way including a reliable transport system and parking facilities, re-development of industrial areas, strengthening of e-governance, tax information exchange system and other related issues.

The PHDCCI members also stressed the need for developing one model industrial area that could serve as a self-sufficient and well-managed industrial estate. They also demanded placement of certain restriction on large scale dumping of goods by China which was affecting collection of VAT and other taxes.

Dr. Walia, who would be presenting the Delhi Budget in the Legislative Assembly on March 24, assured the delegation that rationalisation of taxes would be undertaken. He said the Delhi Government would try to take care of the demands relating to adequate water and electricity supply, roads and development of parking lots near industrial estates.
