Youth’s limbs severed

Staff Reporter

VISAKHAPATNAM: The limbs of a youth were severed when he fell under a train in Visakhapatnam Steel Plant on Thursday.

Baba Jalva, 28, a contract labourer, fell under the train on the track near the Sivalayam on BC Road. It was not known why he had gone to that place. Both his limbs were separated from his body. He was rushed to the King George Hospital for treatment.

Worker injured

A worker was severely injured in a freak mishap at the Visakhapatnam Port Trust in wee hours of Thursday.

According to Harbour ASI T. Sampath Rao, some labourers were sleeping on gypsum stacked in the Port area.

A proclain operator, who was unaware that people were sleeping on the mound, started drawing the gypsum powder to load it onto a tipper. The tipper’s bucket hit the left leg of one of the worker who was sleeping on the mound. He was shifted to a private hospital for treatment.

Harbour Police are investigating the case.
