All-India strike by public sector workers on May 7
Special Correspondent
NEW DELHI: Central public sector workers will go on a nationwide strike on May 7 to protest against disinvestment and privatisation and outsourcing in public sector undertakings (PSUs).
The decision was taken at a meeting of the Committee of Central Public Sector Trade Unions at its two-day convention held in Hyderabad earlier this week. The strike will be preceded by a phased programme of campaign and agitation. In a statement here on Wednesday, the CITU said the meeting demanded that the tenure of wage agreement be not more than five years and that the annual increment as a percentage of basic pay be calculated cumulatively every year.
In PSUs, at least the minimum wage and benefits available to permanent workers should be given to contract workers also.
