‘Chai addas’ no more

Thanks to the road-widening works, the favourite hang-outs for youth along the Mettuguda-Tarnaka stretch are fast dwindling by the day. Among the oldest café and a favourite ‘haunt’ for youngsters along this stretch was Hotel Skylab, located at Mettuguda crossroads, that was razed to the ground recently.

Similarly, such tea spots like New Friends Café (Sun Restaurant for old timers) opposite Railway Degree College along this stretch would soon be affected during the widening works. Already, several ‘dabbas’, mainly stocking tea, ‘paan’ and a local-phone, have been taken out of the pavements.

Hitherto, these small-shops, which are strategically placed very close to bus-stops along the stretch, became the much-loved places around which youngsters gather for banter. These days, except for workers, none of these young things are visible. Changing times.
