TRS demands resolution on separate Telangana

HYDERABAD: The abrupt adjournment of the State Assembly for the day within an hour on Thursday came in for sharp criticism from the opposition parties who accused the government of running away from issues raised by them instead of responding.

They felt Speaker K. R. Suresh Reddy should have called for a meeting of the floor leaders to find a way out for taking up the adjournment motions pressed by he opposition, instead of simply adjourning the House.

At a press conference later, TDP leader T. Devender Goud, said it was unfortunate that the House was adjourned early in the day at 10 a.m. itself without any attempt to resolve the impasse. The party insisted on a discussion on classical status for Telugu and allocation of budget funds for weaker sections and minorities in proportion to their population.

CPI (M) leader Nomula Narsimhaiah accused the Government of converting the Assembly into an election meeting. “We raised the important issue of neglect of SCs, STs, BCs and minorities in the budget allocation but the government preferred to run away.”

People were worried over denial of white ration cards to a number of eligible families and the party wanted to highlight the issue through adjournment motion, said Chada Venkat Reddy, leader of the CPI.

TRS leader G. Vijayarama Rao challenged Chief Minister Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy to introduce the resolution seeking separate Telangana.
